I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of 50 Norman’s latest expansion, a stunning new space that’s become a cultural hub in Greenpoint, blending Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary design. It’s a place where food, fashion, design, and art converge, each element thoughtfully curated to create a dynamic, immersive experience.
Compared to my last visit, the space felt more alive, more vibrant. The curation — always on point — has now reached a new level of excellence. It’s clear that 50 Norman continues to evolve, staying true to its roots while expanding its offering in unexpected, delightful ways.
Some exciting new additions to the space include:
- Balmuda’s Teppan Yaki Grill, an elegant and innovative piece that brings the art of Japanese cooking into the home.
- Cibone O’te’s expanded collection of homeware and furnishings, blending minimalist Japanese design with modern sensibilities.
- Dashi Okume’s custom dashi blends, a nod to the foundational flavors of Japanese cuisine, perfect for those wanting to recreate authentic dishes at home.
In addition to these, there’s a host of new culinary experiences to explore:
- HOUSE Brooklyn, a Japanese-French omakase by Chef Yuji Tani, is now open, offering an elevated dining experience that bridges two rich culinary traditions.
- KAMA-ASA is showcasing their exquisite Amane knife collection, alongside a selection of original kitchen tools that speak to the meticulous craftsmanship and precision of Japanese artisans.
Looking ahead, the space will soon welcome Café O’te by HOUSE Brooklyn, opening in June. This café-restaurant-bar promises to blend French culinary techniques with Japanese sensibility, making it a must-visit this summer.
If you’re in the neighborhood, it’s absolutely worth stopping by to experience this beautifully curated space. Whether you’re a design enthusiast, a foodie, or someone who simply appreciates craftsmanship, 50 Norman is a place that offers a thoughtful, immersive glimpse into the art and culture of Japan.
