My 13th Blogiversary (and Birthday): Something Feels Different

Today’s a special one—my blog turned thirteen, and so did I. It’s both thrilling and strange to wake up, look back, and realize how much has changed. Thirteen years ago, when I started blogging, the rules and expectations felt one way. Now? The field’s shifted so much, it sometimes feels like I’m playing a different game.

This year, I’m not doing a fancy list or following any “blogiversary” formula. I’m simply sharing some thoughts, celebrations, and odd observations. Because hey—it’s my birthday. I get to do what I want.

Going Looser With My Blogging

Outfit posts used to be the backbone of this site. But lately, they’re rare. I used to polish every sentence, proofread every image, and make sure every detail was curated just right. I’m trying something different: loosening up. More conversational posts. More off-the-cuff reflections. Less pressure to post what everyone expects. Because sometimes, “good enough” trumps perfect.

Health, Hard Work, and Respecting Limits

Life’s been a rollercoaster. Sciatica used to dominate my days with pain, but thanks to physical therapy, it’s easing. Still, hard labor—like working in the garden, shifting soil, laying patio stones—reminds me just how much more my body needs rest these days. We don’t have thousands to hire everything done, so weekends involve sweat and muscle. But we’re learning to pace it—morning or afternoon bursts, not all day. Smart fatigue over reckless exhaustion.

Birthday Rituals & Little Joys

I’ve made some rules: I don’t work on my birthday. That’s non-negotiable. My partner also takes the day off. We plan something simple yet lovely—a lunch at a favorite pub garden, maybe even paddling if the weather cooperates. Because turning 52 (or “being 52” for a while, if uneven numbers bother you) deserves more than ignoring.

Weather in July here has been frustrating—grey skies, cold rain, or just gloomy. But there’s something hopeful watching a forecast calling for warm sun. I want at least part of the day to feel like summer.

Writing a Novel? Maybe.

One unexpected spark this year: I’m writing fiction. Something longer, with a narrative arc, depth, character growth. Little bits of my life, yes, but also imagination, day-dreams, what-ifs. I’ve drafted several chapters already and I’m loving the flow of it. Fingers crossed it becomes more than just a joy project.

Quotes & Reflections That Stayed With Me

As I get older, I’m collecting quotes that cut through noise. The kind that make me pause and feel seen. One this week reminded me that peace can be found in consistency—that having a stable, ordinary life, free from crises, is no small thing. Another said maybe the goal isn’t becoming everything, but un-becoming what doesn’t fit anymore. I carried those with me through garden work, early morning coffees, and quiet moments.

Final Thoughts & Gratitude

So here’s to thirteen years of blogging—evolving, shifting, chasing authenticity. I’m grateful you’re here, if you’ve been following since the start or just joined. Thanks for reading, sharing, for sticking through the less polished posts, the quiet days, and the seasons of change.

If you’ve walked this path with me, I’d love to hear: what feels like it’s changed most for you in your life lately?

Until next time—here’s to more stories, looser lines, and a little extra joy in the ordinary.
