Places in Pause

Spaces, textures, and quiet moments that shaped the week.

As the seasons slowly shift, I can feel the light changing. It’s warmer now, more languid — the days stretch longer, spilling into the evenings. This week felt like a balancing act between movement and stillness, with moments of quiet discovery tucked between moments of action. Here are the places and pieces that stayed with me.

Function Health — Curiosity in the Data

I began my week with a visit to Quest Diagnostics, a routine blood draw as part of my onboarding for Function Health. This company offers over 100 lab tests, and while most results are available within 48 hours, there are additional add-on tests that drill deeper, offering an even more granular look at your health. It’s incredibly intriguing. If I had an endless budget, I would definitely be diving deeper into the process.

But what excites me most is the analysis — the interpretation of raw data into something that holds meaning, something that can shape action and understanding. That piece of the puzzle is still unfolding, but in the meantime, I’ve received one surprising, but deeply reassuring result: my biological age. I’m pleased with what I saw — honestly, it’s a bit of a relief, considering my health routine isn’t always perfectly disciplined. It’s a gentle reminder that small, mindful actions over time can have a meaningful impact on our well-being. It’s not about obsessive perfection, but rather consistent care.

The one-year membership was generously gifted to me, and for those interested, it’s typically priced at around $500 for a year of detailed health analysis. Just a note: if you’re in states like New York or New Jersey, there’s an additional lab processing fee that can reach up to $350. For context, I paid about $165 for my first test in Manhattan and $125 for my second test in Brooklyn.
